Edouard smiled, not really sure who Sebastian was. He surmised it was either a person or a pet and felt like it was probably a personal matter. He felt slightly uncomfortable again.
“I’ll be sure to tell you next time I run across a litter,” he joked. “They went quick, one of the lads took them up to the secretarial pool to show off a bit. He said the witches in there fell in love immediately and he came back empty handed,” Edouard explained. He’d have most likely taken them all if they couldn’t find a home. They were all truly adorable and word had spread fairly quickly. A couple of workers had come to his desk, inquiring about them after they’d all found homes.
“An Auror was rather put out when he’d heard there weren’t any left. He said something about wanting one for his lady,” Edouard relayed. “I had a few visitors from other departments after they’d been handed out. I’m surprised you hadn’t heard.”

"Oh, I miss a lot of office gossip," Violet said, taking another sip of her coffee. "I tend to tune it out. If they were all twittering about it, I probably figured it wasn't worth hearing. I prefer to focus when I'm at work and I've also been in the field a lot lately."

“I certainly know that feeling,” Edouard replied. “I’m often chided by our department colleagues for not being social and focusing too closely on work.” When he had first started at the Ministry the lads in their department would constantly ask him to join them for happy hour or some other social function that usually involves alcohol. He wasn’t opposed to the drinking, every Frenchman loves a glass or two, but he was opppsed to what the wine might do to his senses and sensibilities. He didn’t want to look a fool in front of these people he has to work with. It didn’t take too many refusals before they stopped asking at all.
“I personally think they’re perfectly fine people, I just don’t really enjoy public functions. How about you?”

"I enjoy social functions fine," she allowed. Violet had no social anxieties. She did appreciate the occasional informal outing, though of course, she wasn't one to drink to excess with co-workers. "What I don't enjoy quite so much is the gossip mill. And, unfortunately, as a female...it is kind of hard to avoid at times. Good people, sure, but apparently bored."

Edouard thought about that for a moment. It was his understanding that women were the gossipers. If his mother was anything to go by, women adored gossiping. Violet was clearly a different sort, a lot more like him than he’d have thought; minus the social anxiety and allergies. He was considering the possibility of having an actual friend; outside of blood relatives and pets, that is.
“I’m not great in social situations, as you may have noticed,” he said somewhat sheepishly. “My mother attempted to socialize me properly but I just never took to it,” he continued. “I much prefer a case file and a glass of wine in a quiet room to crowds and bustling.”

"My father tried to do the opposite," she laughed lightly. "He did not want me to be socialized, but my grandmother took me in hand and I believe I've done alright. I've never minded socializing - if the company is agreeable." There were many instances where Violet had hidden at parties or avoided students at Hogwarts because of her personal hang-ups. Edouard didn't really need to know anything so personal, though.
"I prefer small groups of people I... trust."

“Your father and mine sound similar. If it had been up to him, poor Babette would have never left the house,” he mused. All of the men in the L’attrayant family were fiercely protective of Babette but none so much as their father. While Edouard wasn’t particularly happy about his little sister growing up, the idea of her dating made Monsieur L’attrayant wild with anxiety and fear. He often thought he’d be the same should he have a daughter.
“Even with agreeable company, I often find myself unsure of what to say or how to act,” he said. Edouard didn’t usually say more than two words to anyone outside of his family. “I’m not sure who to trust these days, aside from family.”

"You seem to be doing just fine right now," Violet pointed out with a smile. She had no trouble whatsoever being social - she never faltered for what to say or how to act. Hers wasn't a social anxiety, just a preference to avoid those that were rude and untactful. "I'd have never known you struggled with that. Trust is a loose term, you know? You trust some people with some things, no one with everything."
