Teegan White, H5
Teegan couldn't sleep. It was quarter to 3 on a Saturday morning, and yet, despite all the homework he planned to get done and all the time wandering the grounds he wanted to do, here he was, laying awake in his bed. His mind was racing, worrying about everything that it could possibly worry about; How was the Hufflepuff Quidditch team going to do in its upcoming game? What new lessons were planned for him come Monday and the days following, what on earth was he going to write for his 13 inch homework on the uses of the "Draught of Peace" they had just learned about the Monday prior, nearly a week ago.
He tossed and turned for a good half an hour before he finally decided that sleep was not going to happen, and he got out of bed. He quickly put on his canary yellow robe and stole down stairs to the common room. The cozy room looked a bit eerie in the morning gloom. The fire in the hearth threw dancing shadows everywhere, and the long, tendril-like leaves of the plants everywhere didn't help make his anxious mind set more at ease. The sun would not come through the windows slightly above ground level for quite some time, and so he resided himself to sit before the fire in one of the few comfy arm chairs there were. As he sat and stared at the flames dancing upon the logs, his mind wandered to breakfast. What will we have this morning, he thought, his stomach rumbling a bit.
As he thought about food, attempting to quiet his mind, he noticed how warm the fire had been making him. Although, despite this, it almost made him more alert and awake than sleepy, which is what he had been hoping for. Despite the sudden realization that he was now wide awake, he smiled at how cozy his common room was. He had heard stories of the other common rooms. The Ravenclaw common room and its large, arched windows in their high tower, their vaulted ceilings and their open common area. The Slytherin common room was located beneath the lake, and always seemed to have a green tint to everything, not to mention the best wizard-made furniture anyone could by. And the Gryffindor common room, which he thought he'd like the most, with its squashy arm chairs and roaring fire set in a hearth he imagined like this one. But with this all, he knew that theirs, the Hufflepuffs, had the most comfortable and cozy common room of them all. He smiled to himself before saying, aloud, "Cozy fires really are the best things in the world."
