Physical Description: Moira stands rather tall at 5’6’’. Though slim, she has broad shoulders and evident curves that she often hides in loose, dark clothing. Her pale face is splattered with freckles which splay across her long nose and high cheekbones. Dark brunette waves frame her oblong face, accented by the token bright blue eyes of the Herrera family. Moira stands slightly slouched, often with her arms folded across her body in a protective way. She tends to drift to the corners of rooms and attempts to make herself unseen.
Personality: A quiet artist, Moira tends to come off as not only extremely introverted, but rather rude. She suffers from crippling social anxiety as well as depression, and generally is unable to handle social situations, which leaves people assuming she prefers solitude and does not care if she gives offense. In reality, Moira prefers the company of like-minds, and prefers to keep peace with others. On good days, she is able to participate in life other than the that which she does with her art in solitude. She is rather joyous to be around, as her mind is full of depth and vast creativity when it can be accessed by other people. Moira is a very successful student, when her sadness is not so strong; however, she has been known to sick below average when too overwhelmed.
History: Moira was born a pureblood witch to Mallory and Ricardo Herrera. She grew up in the company of her devoted brother, Galen, who supported her infantile curiosity and desire to explore. Her took great care of her as a young girl, and that care only increased after her life-changing accident.
When Moira was six, she was assaulted while traveling with their mother, which left her with permanent scaring across her back and ribs. Moira was always a quietly curious child. She did not often speak, and preferred to figure things out on her own. She loved to explore and adventure with her older brother, and often sought his counsel when she needed help. One of her favorite things to do in her early childhood was accompany her mother on expeditions around the world as she researched magical wildlife. However, when she was six years old, one of these expeditions went terribly wrong. Her mother was studying the acromantula. She had decided to let Moira come out into the field with her, as she was certain that the nest they would be looking at was abandoned. At first, it seemed to be so--the whole nest was silent and seemed to be the perfect place to quietly study and gather information. However, when they started looking around, Mrs. Herrera was proven terribly wrong. Moira was snatched by one of the spiders. She was badly hurt and bears scars across her back from the incident due to the venom secreted into her body during the attack. Although the talented Mallory was able to retrieve her from the accident, the time it took to get her the medical attention she needed resulted in permanent scarring from the attack. She was in the hospital for several weeks after this incident, and has suffered long-term mental health consequences because of it.
After this accident, Moira was almost never without her older brother. She became a very scared and unable to perform daily life tasks without his help. She was very fortunate that her brother was still at Hogwarts during her first year, which allowed her to have the support she needed as she transitioned to her new life at school. When Galen graduated and left her alone at school, her life became much more difficult. At Hogwarts, she has few friends and struggles to exist as a social being. She spends most of her time alone in the library or reading in bed with the curtains drawn around her. Often, she cries in class and seeks the solace of Madam Pomfrey in the Hospital Wing, who provides what support she can for Moira’s mental illness.
