There was nothing worse than sitting in the ditch of memories, and he knew that. Despite what had happened in the past and how much it hurt, he knew he needed to move on. He hated the fact he couldn't change it, but he also reviled the idea of using a time-turner, even if it was possible to go back that far. Fate and time were perilously interwoven, and to upset one would unbalance the other. Who knew what would have happened had he been able to save her? He knew he'd barely see her during the school year anyway. She was a muggle, after all, and from what he understood, he wouldn't be able to tell her about his amazing school and what he was learning anyway. He'd probably just lied and complained about how much he hated his math class or something.
"Well, thank you for the lesson," he said, smiling. "It was really helpful, and I feel a lot better now." He looked over on her desk before looking back up to her. "There's no way you'd be willing to let me in on what our next practical class period will be, is there?" Despite his Average marking he had been receiving his prior four years in school, he was absolutely enamored by the subject Professor Scarborough taught. While he wouldn't say he was outright expecting to use even twenty percent of the information he learned in her class in real life, much like muggle math, he at least loved knowing the information and having it in the back of his mind in case he needed it, unlike muggle math. Thank goodness they didn't have muggle math classes. There was Arithmancy, but that was divination by numbers. Another subject he wasn't the most fond of to begin with, so he didn't plan to take it. "Perhaps something about counter-curses?"
