Teegan White, H5
As he pushed open the large, front doors of the entrance hall, Teegan was greeted by the slightly chilling air of the early spring. He readjusted the small backpack he carried, wrapped his cloak about himself a little tighter to stave off the cold, and set off down the path to the front entrance of Hogwarts castle. It was an early Saturday morning, and the sun had barely crested above the horizon. There was not a cloud to be seen this day, he noted, as his eyes wandered the heavens, taking in the slowly blue-ing sky.
Nearly no one else in the castle was up this early, and Teegan liked it that way. He could start his day off in peace and quiet. He personally hated mornings, but realized that if he woke up before everyone else, he'd have more time to wake up and be less grumpy by the time he would interact with others. As he wiped the sleep from his eyes, he took an abrupt left into the grass, the morning dew clinging to his shoes as he went, the track he left looking like sad imitations of the ones he had left during the winter after a snowfall. The tracks would be gone by 9, he knew, but he chuckled at the comparison he made to himself. He strode down to the lake, before stopping at the water's edge. He yawned heavily and watched as his condensed breath float way on the slight breeze before it disappeared.
He bent down and picked up a smooth, flat rock. He splashed it around in the water a few times as he hummed an unfamiliar tune to himself before casting the stone far out onto the water's surface. It bounced a few times, four, five, before losing momentum and sinking beneath the tiny waves. The young man stared at the spot for a few seconds before a familiar tentacle rose above the surface, rock in suckers, and tossed it back, skipping it as the Hufflepuff had done before. The rock skidded to a halt at Teegan's feet. He skipped the rock back in a strangest version of 'fetch' he had ever played. This went on for a good fifteen minutes or so, until after throwing the stone out, the only thing to surface were bubbles. He chuckled at the familiar end to this game, and wandered away, towards a small outcropping of trees. Once there, he kicked a small patch of grass to rid it of the water droplets that clung to its ends, and sat, making sure his robe absorbed any moisture that was under him. He set his pack beside him and began pulling items out of it.
He first pulled out a few breakfast bars he had brought from home. He then produced a large, rather old-looking book entitled "Advanced Transfiguration: Wallets to Whales" and opened it about a third of the way through. He opened up the first bar and began eating it, his eyes never really leaving the page he was reading except to glance up whenever the page was turned.

Primrose Cromwell S5
All of the girls in her dormitory had been peacefully sleeping - save one, who had a bad habit of tossing and turning all night through - when Prim had gotten up and dressed. She was considerate enough to be silent in her movements as she did so, not wanting anyone to offer to join her. There were some things that a girl just felt like doing alone. Once she had washed up and dressed in street clothes under a jean jacket with patches on it, she grabbed her bag and headed out.
A thin mist had covered the grounds when she had set out of the castle, the air fresh and crisp. She inhaled deeply, smiling, and headed toward the Forbidden Forest. Though she wasn't likely to advertise it, there were many times that she had ventured out of bounds. It wasn't that she was particularly rebellious or had a thirst for danger - she just had to seek out certain plantlife that weren't available elsewhere. She had to come across this particular specimen early in the day before they closed up - at which point they'd be impossible to find. They would blend right in with the bark of whatever tree they were cozied up to.
Once inside the treeline, she paused to pull out her journal. Inside, she had all of her notes and sketches of different plants and ingredients that she was experimenting with. She studied the little flower for a moment, then closed her journal and put it back in the pocket of her bag before beginning to search in earnest. It was frustrating at first, when she possessed little patience on an empty stomach, but after about an hour of scouring the roots of each tree, she did find what she needed. Kneeling, she opened her bag again and brought out a little pair of scissors and some clear vials. She carefully clipped a few tiny blooms as close to the root as she could and deposited them into a cylindrical vial, corking it.
It was when she was on her way back out of the forest that she saw a figure sitting up ahead. Her footfalls were light as she approached him curiously, surprised to find anyone about so early on a Saturday.
"Hello," she greeted him casually, dropping to sit beside him with a smile. Now that her task was successful, she felt wide awake and cheerful. "What the devil are you doing up at this hour?"

His face jerked sideways as the voice caught his attention. He had been so absorbed in his book that he had not heard this girl approaching. He fumbled at words for a moment before settling on 'Ga-um... reading?" He quickly took another bite of his breakfast bar, staring at her awkwardly with a faint smile on his face before he realized how strange he must seem right now. "I-i-it's a book I got on my last trip to Hogsmeade," he said, proudly. He flipped the cover shut while leaving the index finger of his right hand on the page he was reading. "It's 'Advanced Transfiguration: Wallets to Whales'," he finished, leaving the book closed. He looked at her sheepishly. "I want to be the Transfiguration professor here one day," he chuckled, looking down at himself. "That, or at least the Muggle Studies professor." He dog-eared the book and quickly shoved it back into his bag.
"I guess I should focus on graduating first," he admitted. He suddenly realized in all his rambling, he had never introduced himself. "I'm Teegan White," he finished, thrusting his hand out towards her. "Hufflepuff fifth year." He looked her over briefly, as he did with everyone he met for the first time, before he decided he had seen her before somewhere. Perhaps it was a class. He was almost certain the two were in the same year, but she obviously wasn't a Hufflepuff, or he'd have known her immediately. "I think," he began, his face now full of frown lines from his thinking, "I've seen you somewhere. Class maybe?"

"I see," Prim's tone was edged in amusement as the boy rambled on about his book and his aspirations. It was nice to meet someone her own age who already knew what they wanted to be when they grew up. So many of their schoolmates thought that their futures would sort out for them without any thought or work on their part. "I think teaching Muggle Studies would be intolerably boring," she admitted, almost yawning even as she said it.
"No," she disagreed. "What we learn here will help us reach our goals, but only if we're making an effort to choose the right electives and pick up extra credit in the right courses. I think it's good you know what you're working toward. I know what I'm doing after Hogwarts, as well." Primrose was an extremely driven girl.
"Primrose Cromwell, Slytherin," she smiled in return. "Of course you've seen me in class."

Teegan chuckled at her words about being a Muggle Studies professor. "Well, to be honest, if I hadn't been raised in the Muggle world, I'd find their way of life fascinating." He nodded, mostly to himself. "I'm actually wondering how I went all those years without magic, now that I can wield it." He stared down at the book on his lap for a moment before looking back up to her.
He smiled brightly when she introduced herself. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Primrose." He chuckled again. "I'm assuming you're a fifth year as well, since we've had classes together." He nodded to himself again. "So, what is it you want to be once you graduate, since you know as well?"

"Yes, obviously," she said easily to his assumption of her year. He'd have to be perfectly unobservant not to know who she was, to be honest. They'd arrived together first year, were sorted together, had classes together. Primrose didn't believe for one moment that she was that forgettable. "I'll be creating my own beauty line. Hair, skin, beauty - the works."

The more he watched the girl, the more he was certain he had known who she was when she approached, although he had mostly kept to himself the last 4 years here at the school. He had a few friends in his house, though he tended not to stray far from them when he actually wanted to be social. And as he listened to her talk, he was sure he had heard that voice answer questions from time to time in classes or laughing in the halls in between them. The name hadn't stuck, but Teegan had always been better with faces than names, unless he had met an individual at least three times, sometimes more. He nodded as she explained her plan for after schooling, and smiled at her.
"Well, creating a beauty line, that sounds really..." Boring is what he wanted to say, though he'd never be so rude as to say it aloud. Despite the fact he had no interest in make up, it didn't mean other witches or wizards wouldn't want it. "challenging," he finished. "I'm not sure how it is here in our world, since I don't use products like that, but the muggle markets are saturated with them! It's a cut throat market, I'd say." He nodded to himself as he spoke. "And I'm sure it would be quite fascinating trying to come up with the potions or mixtures you'd need to formulate before mass production..." He trailed off, staring at the grass between the two of them. "I'd say I'd help, but I'm no good at things like that. Mostly just Transfiguration and Flying." His smile brightened a bit. "Charms too. I'm extremely not bad at Charm work."

"That's very sweet of you to even suggest," Prim said pleasantly, "but I don't really need any help. I've been creating my own beauty potions for ages and already do a small turn of profit here among the girls. I'm building my brand," she gave him a charming smile. Primrose was extremely focused on her future, dedicating a lot of time to promoting herself as much as her products, even now. "I've considered edging into the muggle market, but it'd be a very...delicate process, I'm sure. Loads of licensing needed, really, to market things to muggles. So, until I figure out that proper mess, I've been doing reviews of Muggle make-up whilst home. I've acquired a decent following for it on Youtube. Do you know what that is?"

Teegan smiled brightly as he listened to her talk about what she had already done, completely believing her that her brand could easily grow if she had a big a foothold within the school as she said she did. As she spoke, he checked his backpack to make sure all his belongings were inside before he nodded at her, still smiling. "I know of YouTube," he started, "although I'm amazed a Slytherin like you would." He chuckled to himself, oblivious of the stereotype he was about to throw out. "I assumed with all the 'pureblood' preferences that your house had, all Slytherins would be completely unaware of what YouTube was." He shrugged half-heartedly before putting on his smile again. "I have a few videos myself on it," he started, normally not one to talk about himself. "Just some videos of me singing or messing around with friends. Nothing too spectacular," he finished. "Although, once I'm old enough, I want to go skydiving somewhere and put a video of that up," he said, quite enthusiastic about the whole ordeal. "I've seen a lot of videos on it." He chuckled to himself, shrugging once more. "I know I could just pack a parachute and hitch a ride up on someone's broom and jump off, but the way they do it seems so much more exciting," he began.
He had launched into an explanation before she could even ask what he was talking about. "They go up on planes," he said, assuming she had at least a working idea of how Muggle travel worked, if she knew about their make up market, although the thought he could be wrong never crossed his mind, "And when they get to a certain height, they throw themselves out!" He laughed at the idea. "They fall for thousands of feet before they pull the cord, releasing a large canopy that helps them float down to the ground, so they don't get hurt." He chuckled. "I guess you could say, despite having the dream of being a professor, I am a bit of a thrill seeker." Once more his shoulders moved up and down. "It's a Gryffindor trait to seek adventure, for sure, but I personally feel that we all have a little bit of each house in us, our actual house just being the most prevalent."

As Prim listened to Teegan utterly ramble on with an explanation that she clearly did not need to hear, she watched his face with an impassive expression. She didn't hear a single word of what he was saying once he began to tell her what skydiving was. How self-absorbed was this guy, just going on and on without even pausing for any response? He just assumed she was a Pureblood due to her being a Slytherin - he really should step into the new era. Purebloods weren't really a commonality now, as more and more married non-magical people. Before he had reached the end his speech, she realized that she was simply baffled that anyone could have such opinions about house traits.
"Wow," she drew the word out slowly, softly, tone filled with dry amusement. "You've really got it all figured out, I suppose. Memorized all the house traits so that you could immediately assign people their personalities without ever actually needing to get to know them as people. That alone, I'm afraid, sort of discredits your theory. I don't think being rude is normally a Hufflepuff trait." She said the last comment while looking away, as if trying to remember what Hufflepuff house was most known for. Probably not being presumptuous, judgmental prats.
While Primrose was a genuinely kind and accepting girl, she never pulled her punches. She wouldn't allow Teegan to hurt her feelings by assuming she was something that she wasn't. Perhaps no one had ever told him how rude that was. While he had probably been attempting to be kind by explaining what skydiving was, it really had felt more condescending because he hadn't bothered to ask if she already knew.

"What do you mean, rudeness," he started, completely bewildered by the sudden shift in their conversation. "I didn't mean... I wasn't..." he stammered, taken aback but his apparent rudeness towards her. "I never claimed to know a person based on their house," he finished, glaring at her. "I merely stated that Bravery is a well known Gryffindor trait, not that all Gryffindors are defined by it..." He sighed. "What is it that I've done to upset you," he said, his tone lowering to that of a normal conversation. "No matter what I said, I meant no offense," he nearly pleaded. "I don't like upsetting anyone!"
He let out an audible groan as he looked back down to the backpack on his right before uttering quietly "you've mucked it up again, White." He pulled the unopened breakfast bar out of his backpack before swinging it over his shoulder and rising to his feet rather quickly. He held the breakfast bar out to her, a dejected look upon his face. "Well, if you want it, you can have this," he said, shrugging as he did so. "I guess you could consider it a peace offering before I leave you to it..." he glanced back towards the castle, sighing. "Never was good at making friends. Didn't know why now I'd be able to change it," he finished, adding a low, forced chuckle.

Prim watched Teegan cycle through a myriad of emotions and get to his feet, deciding to go for dejected. If there was one trait that she couldn't abide in a person, it was the way one could be rude and then act like the victim. Poor pitiful him, she thought. Rather than give her the opportunity to explain how he'd been offensive, he chose to feel sorry for himself. Honestly.
She pushed to her own feet when he offered the breakfast bar, but she didn't take it. When she spoke, her voice was calm and not unpleasant. "Perhaps rather than assuming I'm a Pureblooded witch based solely on my being in Slytherin, and then launching into a rather condescending description of something based on your assumptions, you could take a moment to actually get to know me."
Prim dusted off her legs, then pushed hair out of her face. "I'm a muggleborn. A mudblood, if you prefer. There are actually a good number of muggleborns in Slytherin. We're ambiitous, not necessarily pure."
With that, she started for the castle.

"In my defense," he started after her, "statistics show that muggle-borns in Slytherin are extremely rare," he said, counting off on one finger. "Even half-bloods aren't that common," he said, staring at her back, still feeling forlorn. "And to be honest," he said, speeding up to catch up with her, "I thought that's what we were doing, getting to know each other." He shrugged, now keeping stride with her. "I'm sorry again I said something that offended you, but since I didn't know you at all, I don't know what does and doesn't upset you," he reasoned, glancing over at her.
He stepped out on a limb with his next statement, hoping she'd appreciate the straightforwardness he was going to exhibit. "And if I'm to be honest," he said, speeding up a bit to stand before her, directly in her path. "It's a bit rude, as well as unfair, to get angry with me for something I had no idea would upset you," he concluded, dropping his hands to his sides. "While assuming does make an 'Ass out of U and Me'," he began, trying to put on a polite smile, "it's also not nice to get upset when the other has no way of knowing how not to upset you." He had planted himself firmly. He knew what he said wasn't going to turn her mindset around completely, or even make her not upset, he had just hoped it may calm her down enough to continue conversing with him.

Prim drew up short when he stepped into her path, brows lifting in surprise as he went on about her being rude. When he seemed to be done rambling, she waited for a beat and then started to laugh. It was actually pretty hilarious, all things considered. Perhaps she had overreacted when he put it just like that. At any rate, she wasn't one to cling to any negativity so it was easy enough to release whatever irritation she'd had toward him.
"You are a very interesting boy," she informed him with amusement lighting her eyes, laughter still brightening her features.

Teegan stared at her, waiting for her response, expecting her to huff past him, and maybe even push him out of the way, but that's not what happened. The total opposite actually happened. She laughed. His eyes grew wide at first, taken aback by the sudden shift in attitude, although this is sort of what he had been hoping for when he had spoken. He slowly started to laugh too, just glad that awkward phase was out of the way for now.
He chuckled at her comment, and shrugged again. "Well," he said, a small smile playing across his face, "That's not normally how others put it, but I like to think so." He smiled widely, although his face was bright red.
He looked at her for a moment before putting his hand out towards her. "Sorry," he stated again. "We square?"
